    • Guide to SeriousRP

      Introduction

This guide was designed to help out new and unfamiliar players in the SeriousRP genre, and also to acquaint people within the Half-Life universe and its roles. Staff members may feel free to use this guide to direct a new member, I will be working on this document actively to make adjustments and improvements in the coming days!

      Initiation

Before you connect to the server, you wanna make sure that all of Limefruit’s server content has been downloaded to ensure you do not receive any missing textures or errors. You can do this by pressing on the following link. . .

      https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=2422242557

The content pack is updated on a regular basis to improve and optimize the server for peak performance.

Once done you should now be able to connect to our Black Mesa SeriousRP server, where you will be greeted by a questionnaire to which you will need to fill out the proper answers.

      20220207193348_1.jpg

Now, I will not give you all of the answers since that defeats the purpose of the quiz. I will however be going through some of the more difficult questions and explain a few terms used commonly within Garry’s Mod.

      Roleplay Dictionary

      OOC - Out of Character

Is the meaning of communicating outside of a roleplay environment, you would use this to talk to other players when for example chatting about things not related to roleplay, which could be really anything regarding yourself and not your character.

Usually there is a specific chat for this and commands can vary but usually you type /ooc or // in front of the message you wish to display. Bear in mind that all present players on the server can see your message when using these commands.

LOOC - Local out of Character

Basically the same meaning as OOC, with the difference being that you communicate OOC’ly with those next to you on the server, commands can be .// or /looc to talk. Bear in mind that not everyone on the server will see your message.

      IC - In Character

Is the meaning of communicating within a roleplay environment, talking IC does not need a command, you should be IC most of the time while on the server and actively portray the character you have created.

      Power Gaming

This is a term often used within the Garry’s Mod roleplaying community, it defines a player forcing an action on someone else without giving them the initiative to play along or forcing someone to engage in a RP scenario they themselves do not wish to participate in.

      Meta Gaming

Meta Gaming refers to the action of using OOC information in an IC context to gain an advantage over others. For example, if someone tells me in OOC chat where their secret stash is located and I use this information to find their stash and create an IC scenario out of it. My character could not have been aware that this stash even exists and thus it would be impossible to know.

      Character Creation

      20220207175229_1.jpg

Once you’ve passed the quiz, you can create a new-character to which you will be given a set of options on which factions you can join. It is up to you alone which one you’ll choose.

After you’ve chosen a faction you will need to make a proper first and last name for your character which should not be a celebrity or someone from the actual Half Life Lore.

Then you can make a description for your character, a description should merely entail your physical-appearance. Such as what you’re wearing, how tall you are, how much you weigh, features of your character such as eye-color etc.

It should not include things like your degree or back-story, it should be something that people can pick up on ICly. You also have the ability to customize your character to your liking, you can choose a model and even edit the bodygroups and skins.

Once done you will be moving on to select attributes for your character, depending on the faction you should modify them accordingly.

      20220207180011_1.jpg

Here are all of the attributes which you can choose from. .

Endurance - The duration for how long you can run.
Medical Knowledge - Your expertise in a medical setting, useful for certain items. It's really only useful for medical characters.
Stamina - The speed at which your character can run at.
Strength - How hard you can punch.

      Factions

There are many factions, some of which are gained through donating and some of which you could gain by roleplaying. I will not be covering every faction as this will simply clog the guide further.

The three main factions, or rather the most played factions are the following:

      Scientist

The Scientist faction is the most vital of all factions within the server. As a scientist, your goal is to bring new ideas by creating your own projects or by participating in an existing project.

Bear in mind that while joining the server with prior knowledge can assist you in this faction, it is completely not necessary. You can join without any prior experience or knowledge in the scientific fields and simply gain it over-time (at least the relevant parts) while playing on the server. This may require time and patience, but people will always be glad to help you out.

This faction provides you with a great deal of freedom while playing on the server, which you can use to develop interesting roleplay scenarios.

      Maintenance

The Maintenance faction is all about making repairs and replacing materials, ensuring the facility is maintained properly and to verify that all of the equipment is working proficiently, making sure all of the vending-machines are restocked etc.

Maintenance characters would come with an in-character background in different engineering or construction fields, and may also participate or be asked to participate in a variety of science projects.

      Security

As a Security guard you’re tasked with ensuring the safety of all Black Mesa personnel and of course the scientific equipment within the facility, you are required to regularly patrol and man the lobby-desk. Your occupation is quite vital to verify that all of the Code of Conduct guidelines are followed properly.

There are of course more factions for you to choose from such as Medical, Janitor, and Chef which should all be quite obvious from what they entail. Event factions such as the H.E.C.U - Hazardous Environment Combat Unit are as mentioned previously, donator only but could however be subject to change.

You should not flag on event-factions unless a situation allows for it, if someone asks you to flag off you do so.

      Commands

      /me
Is a command used to describe what your character is doing physically, all /me’s are written from a third-person point of view.

Example: /me would appear to be searching for his wallet albeit finding it eventually, he removes a total sum of five dollars, placing them on the stand.

You can describe really any action you think is appropriate for what your character is doing in the given situation.

      /it
This command can describe something that happens in your environment or with a certain object, it is still to be taken ICly and should be written from a third-person point of view.

Example: /it An accumulation of dust would begin to build-up coming from the parking-lot.

      /y
Yelling will allow your character to communicate with someone at a distance, this command is audible from afar compared to talking normally.

      /w
Whispering is quite the opposite, this can be used to communicate with someone privately. The distance while using this command is quite short, so you’ll need to be standing very close to someone to communicate.

      /pm
Gives you the option to privately message someone, this command is an OOC command and not to be taken ICly.

      /page
Page is basically the IC version of PM, you’re able to page anyone at any given distance ICly.

      /help
Is very useful when you’re in-need of a staff-member to help you out with something specific, maybe if you’re stuck or you simply would like to ask a question.

      /report
This command is used to report someone if you think a rule has been broken, if someone does not conduct themselves maturely etc.

I believe these are the most vital commands you need to know, I hope this guide could help you out. You are of course allowed to contact the staff-team for any further questions, I hope you’ll enjoy your stay!

    • Uniform & Equipment Regulations

Due to previous interactions with certain members of the Security-Department, I've decided to make a clear guideline for what you, as a Security-official can and cannot carry or wear.

      d65jqt7-ff3aa78c-950e-430a-a341-260f0cb3bca7.png

Here's a quick sketch I've made, this is how your average Security-Officer should look while on duty.

      Security Vest & Helmet

The armor vest is also referred to as the Security-Vest, which is a vest created out of a synthetic fiber that can withstand low-caliber rounds limited to nine-millimeter, sub-machinegun, and buckshot ammunition. It can even shield its wearer from certain types of explosives.

These same principles apply to the helmet, those two types of equipment cannot, however..
stop a 357. revolver, a desert-eagle or a crossbow, all of which are utility sometimes deployed within the B.M.R.F

Both of these gadgets are limited to the rank Junior Officer+

      Uniforms

The standard Security-Uniform usually consists of black-assault boots, dark-blue pants, an equipment belt, a black tie, and a blue shirt.

White-shirts for the Security-Department are reserved for Sergeants+, our emergency-response uniform which consists of a green-shirt and other uncommon utility for it such as a gas-mask, etc. is reserved for the Emergency Response Team only.

There are no exceptions to these regulations, and should you decide otherwise you are subject to punishment.

      Weapons-Artillery

      Baton & Tazer

Our standard-duty baton is a tool made of metal, rubber, and plastic. It is used to immobilize an opponent effectively, a baton can be lethal with blows to the head. It is only accessible for Junior Officers+ since you're required to pass basic training.

      432432.jpg

Our standard-duty taser is a non-lethal sidearm that fires electrodes, basically, prongs that release a high-voltage on impact with the designated target. It is an effective way of immobilizing someone. It is reserved for the rank Junior Officer+

      32423432342.jpg

      Glock-17

The Glock-17 is a reliable sidearm that utilizes nine-millimeter ammunition, it can be accurate and effective when used appropriately. It includes a decent rate of fire. This gadget is limited to the rank of Officer+

Notice: You are only allowed to carry one sidearm and one primary firearm at a time, having more than one sidearm or primary will be punished severely if caught. This does not include the Tazer

      432342324432.jpg

      MP5

The MP5 is a quick-deployable sub-machinegun with a high rate of fire, which often makes it difficult to control. It typically uses 9x19mm rounds, but variants of it can also integrate 45. ACP. It is reserved for emergencies only and requires authorization from Security Leadership meaning Lieutenants+ | All Emergency Response Team members regardless of rank can be certified with the MP5

Notice: You are only allowed to carry one sidearm and one primary firearm at a time, having more than one sidearm or primary will be punished severely if caught. This does not include the Tazer

      432423342234342.jpg

      Spas-12

The Spas-12 is a powerful breaching tool and pump-action shotgun that fires buckshot in a cone-shaped pattern. It features two firing modes, with the standard one firing half as many pellets with less spread. It is usually only incorporated by the H.E.C.U forces, It is reserved for emergencies only and requires authorization from Security Leadership meaning Lieutenants+ | All Emergency Response Team members regardless of rank can be certified with the Spas-12

Notice: You are only allowed to carry one sidearm and one primary firearm at a time, having more than one sidearm or primary will be punished severely if caught. This does not include the Tazer

      534543534345.jpg

      357. Revolver

The 357. Revolver is a double-action revolver capable of firing no more than six rounds. It is a very accurate and powerful handgun and will puncture any protective gear, its use is thus reserved for the rank Sergeants+ | All Emergency Response Team members regardless of rank can be certified with the 357.

Notice: You are only allowed to carry one sidearm and one primary firearm at a time, having more than one sidearm or primary will be punished severely if caught. This does not include the Tazer

      543534453354534.jpg

Each firearm listed requires you to have a license to carry it, which is not a state license. . rather one you gain by completing training for those types.

Any gadget not listed here is either highly illegal or simply is not contained within our armory. Any unauthorized carry will be punishable by the Code of Conduct guidelines.

I would also like to refer everyone here to the Use of Force Policy

      Credits go to Zoephix

Under the Department Listing spreadsheet you're able to see which employees are generally certified to carry firearms and which types, being certified does not mean you have the authorization to carry a said firearm, the regulations listed here cannot be overwritten by any other document.

      Notice:
This document is protected under the Code of Conduct and unauthorized access is a severe violation of it.

    • Emergency Response Team (Sub-Department)
      • Notice: This document is protected under the Code of Conduct and unauthorized access is a severe violation of it. Due to some of the classified materials mentioned, I hereby set it's classification to - Clearance X

Due to past and recent events within Black Mesa's Sector C, I am hereby inaugurating Security's first sub-department to combat several hazards we've faced or will encounter in the future.

      Emergency Response Team

      23323232.jpg

      Uniform, Equipment & other Gadgets

When going over the uniform, all members of this sub-department will be given the First-Response uniform which usually is only worn by the Chief, however, this is now subject to change with this introduction.

      M40-Gasmask

The uniform comes with its own dedicated M40-Gasmask, which is not only useful for protection from airborne pollutions and toxic gases but may also give its wearer a more intimidating appearance, which is vital to deter uprisings or scatter large crowds. You should only wear it when conducting one of the Primary Duties listed below.

      342432342234.jpg

      Security-Vest

They also carry an optimized Security-Vest which is the successor to our current standard model and is able to minimize any damages done by higher-calibers, they will not stop something like a 357. but the chance of survival is still increased when compared to our standard version.

      Helmet

The helmet for all ERT units has been re-colored and will not fit the standard-blue you see on any helmets, they come with visors to protect from any thrown objects, liquids, or hazardous chemicals. You should only have the visor on when conducting one of the Primary-Duties listed below.

      423342423234234.jpg

To know more about the equipment they carry and when I will be referring you to the Uniform & Equipment Regulations document.

      Primary Duties

Here are the following primary duties listed for the Emergency-Response Team, when no emergency is going on they should resume their standard procedures like patrolling, manning the desk etcetera.

      • Collaboration with the Medical-Department in order to inoculate any disease.

      • Surpress any hazardous-chemical spills and or isolate anyone from ground-zero

      • Prevent, dissolve and disperse any uprisings

      • Handle and implement any safeguard measures of administration-members if threat-level is high

      • Carry out Counter-Reconnaissance and Counter-Terrorism operations.

      • Cooperation with H.E.C.U units to counteract a Code Purple Lockdown

      • Cooperation with H.E.C.U units to contain any breaches regarding the Borderworld

      Recruitment Process

As of right now, any members will need to be hand-picked and will have to be of a rank equivalent to Officer+ to be considered. Due to the classification and high-tier equipment, this should be self-evident.

The Deputy Chief of Security will be leading this Sub-Department while I - The Chief of Security will manage it

There will be more changes coming to this document as it is a work in progress.

      • Notice: This document is protected under the Code of Conduct and unauthorized access is a severe violation of it. Due to some of the classified materials mentioned, I hereby set it's classification to - Clearance X

    • Special Equipment Regulations & Threat Level Assessment

These regulations have been created to verify what equipment can be used depending on what situation, what threat is according to the magnitude displayed below.

      Special Equipment Regulations

      LOW-KIT

As a low-kit, you classify any utility that does not exceed nine-millimeter ammunition, vests are optional however, visors and gasmasks are prohibited.

      MEDIUM-KIT

When referring to the term medium-kit, you are authorized to carry MP5 Sub-Machineguns and helmet visors.

      FULL-KIT

All utility is now authorized and should be worn which includes a sub-machinegun, helmet visor, and a gas mask that has been sealed correctly. No more than one person may carry a Spas-12 to minimize the risk of friendly-fire that is largely caused to the large-spread within an indoor environment.

      Threat Level Assessment

      LOW

There is no probable cause to believe there is a direct threat to human life or danger, all units should be equipped with a low-kit.

      MODERATE

There is probable cause to believe a danger could present itself but a threat to human life is still unlikely.

      SUBSTANTIAL

The risk of hazards increase and so do the risks of threats which have now been confirmed, security measures should be fortified including patrols. medium-kit has now been authorized

      SEVERE

Casualties have been confirmed and an on-going conflict is in effect, full-kit has now been granted.

      EXTREME

The situation has grown uncontrollable even for the Emergency-Response Team to handle, H.E.C.U should be notified for support.

All levels of threat listed above can only be initiated by the Emergency Response Team's High Command, the standard threat level is always low.

    • Everything regarding administrative commands.

Here you will find any information regarding administrative commands, what they do etc.

Some of the following commands might be inaccessible depending on your rank, I will be going through the basics and maybe include a few more intermediate commands.

      Administrative Commands

      Plycommands

/plygoto Quite simple, this is useful if you'd like to teleport yourself to someone else.

/plybring Is the opposite of goto, this command will bring a player at whatever you're looking at.

/plyrespawn This command will respawn a player.

For all of those three commands, you will need to specify a target after the command has been typed in, which would be their IC name.

/plytransfer This command isn't used as often, with this command you can transfer someone to a designated faction with the requirement being if they have the whitelist for said faction.

You will need to specify both the target and the faction name for plytransfer.

/plywarn This can be useful to reprimand someone for a rule break, to warn someone you need to specify a target and a reason. When specifying the reason be sure to use quotation marks with your message in-between.

/plykick This command will cause a player to be disconnected, you need to specify both the target and a valid reason for doing so. When specifying the reason be sure to use quotation marks with your message in-between.

/plyban This command will time someone out, you need to specify three things. A target, the time, and of course the reason. If you type the digit zero, you will end up perma-banning the suspect.

/plybanoffline Is basically the same as plyban, the only difference being the target which is replaced with a SteamID. You can pull a SteamID from the console once a player disconnects or suffers a time-out. Obviously, this command is to be used if the suspect has left.

      Other Commands

/charsetname Proves to be very useful if someone has a FailRP name, you can change it by specifying a target and then adding a new name. Name generators can be pretty helpful if you can't think of one.

/charkick Will kick a currently used character, forcing the player back to the loading screen.

/charban Will ban a character for the time set, if no time is specified the character will be banned indefinitely.

/charsetmodel With this command, you are able to change someone's model by choosing one from the Q-menu. By right-clicking on a model and copying it to the clipboard you can change it to any model of your liking.

/charsethealth This command will set someone's health to the given amount.

/charsetarmour This command will set someone's armor to the given amount.

/charsethunger This command will set someone's hunger to the given amount.

/charsetthirst This command will set someone's thirst to the given amount.

      IC Commands

/charpromote Can be used to promote someone ICly, department heads and members of the staff team have access to this command.

/chardemote Can be used to demote someone ICly, department heads and members of the staff team have access to this command.

/clearancegive Will assign a clearance to someone, especially useful for Scientists if they're working on a project.

/clearancetake Is the opposite of clearance give.

      Tab Functions

There are a lot of administrative functions you can make use of when pressing tab, for example, the scoreboard. While it can be useful to see who is currently on what character, you also possess the ability to right-click someone, which will prompt you with a window displaying several command options.

      20220209003329_1.jpg

You have the ability to execute a variety of commands, banning people so on and forth. Take in mind, some of the commands displayed may be unaccessible to you depending on the rank you hold.

Clicking on the top-bar called "Administration" should usually tell you, which staff members are currently online.

After having selected this bar, you will also have the option to select "Bans"

      20220209003512_1.jpg

There are two sections here, "Soft Bans" and "Hard Bans"

As a soft-ban, typically you classify anything that is not severe, kicks can usually be displayed here as well. Soft bans that have not yet expired will appear as orange.

As a hard-ban you usually refer to the more severe cases such as permanent bans etc.

      20220209003445_1.jpg

At the very bottom of the picture shown above, you see a ban which was carried out by FilmsActionCZ

This is what a ban should look like, clear reasons stated and a direction to the forums for it to be appealed.

Thank you all, I hope this guide could help you out!

Due to our occupational tasks being present within the indoor environment of Sector C's facility, we will be conducting exercises regarding CQC which can involve anything from short-range firefights, hand-to-hand combat but we will specifically be focusing on breaching.

CQC is one of the most difficult and dangerous tasks to execute, due to friendly units, civilians, and close proximity to one's opponent.

      Entry Team

There are many roles that have been constructed for entry teams, we will only be using roles that fit the environment and are actually required.

      Team Leader

Quite simple, the Team Leader makes sure to direct the entry team according to objective and organizing engagements. He is always responsible for the organization of assaults, he is always the first person to open a door and move in.

      Assault Man

Quite honestly the most dangerous role in the team, he's the second man to enter and most likely to be hit by reactionary fire. He is the first one to clear the room's side.

      Breacher

The Breacher is a vital role, his responsibility will be to unlock the door should it be inaccessible, he has access to a Spas-12 and if H.E.C.U applies the according gadgets there would even be room for breaching-charges. (Satchel Charges) He will be the third to enter the room however, if a ready-call is initiated he can reposition himself to the door.

      Support

To ensure man and firepower are accounted for, this role is really just a fill-role in this case.

      Slackman

Is always stationed at the rear of the stack, his responsibility is to make sure the team isn't flanked, and to secure the rear, he is always first to initiate a ready call.

      Initiating Ready & Stack-Up calls

Stacking-Up is done under the Team Leader's discretion, he will be the first to position himself facing a door, which is followed by all the other roles in according to order - Assault Man, Breacher, Support, and Slackman. (Only the Pointman will be facing the door unless the element of surprise has been compromised)

Assault Man will always be facing 45-degrees to the front right or left, Breacher will be facing outward 90-degrees while the Slackman will be holding the rear at 180-degrees to the stack each respectively.

The ready-call is initiated by the Slackman, to uphold the element of surprise he will do this non-verbally by proceeding to tap the man ahead of him.

Once the Breacher has been tapped he will tap the Assault Man to verify if the ready-call is in effect, once verified he will position himself between the Point & Assault Man in order to open the door by any means necessary and or throw utility into the room.

Breaching is done by pointing the muzzle of your firearm at the hinges and or lock, specific breaching rounds are used for those which we will be using.

Once breaching, the person ahead of you should announce whether he's going right or left, if he's going left you're going right and the opposite as well.

They're tasked with collecting samples from Xen, due to the varying hazards encountered on the job it may well be considered the most dangerous.

      H.E.V MK-IV

The Hazardous Environment Mark Four is a hazardous materials suit specifically designed for the Black Mesa Scientist Department, it was developed to aid in the handling of hazardous materials and for distant travels to the borderworld of Xen. It is most effective when fully charged, being able to absorb blunt-force trauma, energy discharges, and many more hazards.

The H.E.V MK IV includes an onboard computer system to monitor the user's vital signs and even a built-in weapons system to inform you of basic needs such as the weaponry you're handling, ammunition reserves, etc. And even has the ability to prevent oxygen-deprivation

Notice: Any fall damage encountered will be absorbed directly by the user, the suit will not shield you from falling.

You require a license and need to be qualified in order to use it.
