      Working in HR

      STOP!
This Handbook is only to be read by members of Black Mesa's various Human Resources branches or other members of the Administration Department for educational and review purposes.
Continuing to read if you are not an employee of either is grounds for an administrative infraction!

      Chapter 1
      HR Employee Responsibilities
(And how they should affect your day-to-day conduct.)

As a member of Black Mesa's HR branch, you are expected to set an example to your fellow employees as to how to act while they are on the worksite. While you are allowed to befriend and have a rapport with those who you work with, you must maintain the ability to resolve issues that come about with a fair hand, both when your friends are the ones reporting and being reported on.

As a member of HR, you will be working closely with your seniors in order to keep Black Mesa running smoothly, both on a day-to-day scale and over the long term.

We all play a part in how safe, healthy, and efficient the research and development process goes. Your part is to handle one of BMRF's most valuable resources: the workers.

Any further questions as to how you should conduct yourself should be directed to senior HR personnel.

        Chapter 2
        Reasonable Expectations
(Or what will be expected of you as you become more senior.)

All members of Black Mesa start somewhere. The same is to be said for HR. Unless you are a transfer or a highly valuable asset, chances are you have begun your employment as a junior employee.

While it may be grating to need to listen to the majority of HR, this is a blessing in disguise. As a junior employee, you have time to adjust to the expectations of your superiors, including the Branch Manager and Head of Administration. This means that so long as you do not misstep too terribly, you are almost certain to retain your job - to a point.

This only applies while you are still being shadowed by or shadowing your seniors to gather experience. Once you are determined to be capable of acting alone, you are solely responsible for the actions you perform, both appropriate and not.

Once you are a full-time employee, mistakes are expected to occur far less often than when you were a junior employee. And if you're promoted to a senior employee, mistakes that have moderate to major effects should almost never occur.

You are a part of Black Mesa that tends to the body as a whole. Your importance is great but you must maintain performance or you will be dismissed and replaced.

          Chapter 3
How to File Paperwork on the Intranet
          (Yes, you must file reports.)

In this chapter, we will talk about general formatting for paperwork that is filed. You do not have to follow the format to the T but you must adhere to the spirit.

Here is the formatting for basic reports (Remove any parenthesizes and parenthesized text. Also bold where applicable.)

          Employee Name:
          Employee Rank:

Reporter's Name: (If applicable, if not N/A)
Reporter's Department: (If applicable, if not N/A)

Reason for Report: (Incident Type - pay dispute, conflict resolution, etc.)
          Description of Incident:

Description of Resolution: (If one was reached. If not, provide steps taken to reach a resolution.)

Comments: (If applicable, if not N/A)

            Chapter 4
            Promotions and You
(Or when to expect a promotion.)

As any employee of a company with a form of a hierarchy knows, promotions are handed out for when your experience grows too great for the position you are currently in. It is similar in some ways but different in others with HR within Black Mesa.

The similarities are there for Junior Employee to Employee. If you serve enough time in HR without being terminated or forcibly transferred, you will become a full-time employee.

However, to go from full-time to senior full-time, you both need a vast amount of experience and skills that are above and beyond the rank and file. This is necessary because as senior employees, you have high-level clearances and are expected to resolve any issue that pops up near effortlessly.

Deputy Managers are hand-selected by the Branch Manager either from the senior full-time pool or from a pool of eligible transferees, either from within Black Mesa or from without.

And the Branch Manager is appointed by either the Head of Administration or the main office of Black Mesa.

              Chapter 5
              Clearance Levels and You
(And why you shouldn't talk about classified information.)

As you become a more senior employee, you will find yourself being granted clearance to higher CLs and if you become a senior employee, you will also be granted access to the SAPs that go on within Black Mesa.

Sensitive and sometimes classified materials will go past your desk even as just a full-time employee and you are bound by contract to not speak of any information you may learn to anyone who is not cleared for it. It is also good conduct to not speak of the information with people who are not involved with the program unless necessary, even if they have the appropriate clearance.

It is not your job to disclose information about the projects and programs that are within BMRF. If someone needs to know something, they will either know or eventually be let into the know. The someone who lets them into the know is not you.

Remember, Black Mesa reports to the United States government - you can be charged with federal offenses for leaking information that is considered of importance to Black Mesa or the U.S. Government.

To outline the general clearances for each rank in HR, an overview is provided. Bear in mind this is just the CLs you will most likely have at each rank. You may be granted more depending on what you are currently investigating and then either have them revoked once the case is closed or keep them depending on how trustworthy you have proven yourself to be.

              Senior Employee - 12345ABPX
              Employee - 123BP
              Junior Employee - 12

Deputy Managers are not included on the list because they will normally have the exact same clearance as senior employees.

That is all for this volume of Working in HR. Thank you for reading this handbook and always endeavor to make the next day at Black Mesa better than the last.
