Black Mesa Security Force
Guide

This guide teaches and defines the standards of any and all members within the Black Mesa Security Force.

Subjects such as individual conduct, performance and even professionalism on-duty are addressed within this guide.

For Cadets it is required to read this guide. For Officer+, it is recommended to read the guide throughout their career to make sure they perform exceptionally in the field.

Core Values

Article I
Professionalism

Professionalism at the time of duty is characterized as communicating effectively while maintaining productivity throughout your assignments.

In order to establish trust you’ll need to uphold a respectful attitude, you are a representation of our department.

As an asset to the BMRF you’re expected to contribute to a stable and healthy work environment.

Article II
Conduct & Discipline

You are expected to follow any and all safety regulations within the premises, from general laboratory safety rules to proper use of a firearm.

If you are uncertain or have any questions it is up to your discretion to inform yourself, ignorance and forgetting is not an excuse.

Failure to uphold this directive may jeopardize the safety of you and your coworkers which will lead to severe consequences.

Article III
Accountability

Even our most competent employees make errors, an error does not become a mistake unless you refuse to correct it.

Therefore you should always strive to become the best version of yourself and take accountability for your actions.

Be direct and truthful with your superiors if you’ve made an error.

While reading this you've probably noticed that Junior Officer has been replaced with Cadet once more. This change has been made due to the fact that the Black Mesa Security Force is no longer part of the PMC. This means that people with little to no experience can and will be hired by Black Mesa. Whilst before when the PMC was hired to protect Black Mesa, every member had to go through bootcamp, therefore they were already trained and became Junior Officers. Now that the Black Mesa Security Force is a branch of the PMC that has been bought by Black Mesa, civilians can be hired with no experience.

For those who don't understand the Corporal position, it is a bridge between the ranks of Senior Officer (which is a Veteran position) and Sergeant (which is a supervisory position) and is given to test candidates if they are qualified to take up supervisory and possibly leadership positions.

Promotions will be given if you follow the Core Values and complete certifications. There is a chance that you are handpicked by Leadership (LT+) to be promoted to the rank above your current rank.

In terms of equipments, a Security member of any rank shall always carry the basics (see Cadet's armory access). A Security member can customize their look as they please.

Certifications

Before getting promoted, you will be trained in a certificate that is required to have in order to be promoted to the rank, for example, you will be trained in firearms use (Glock 17) before being promoted from Cadet to an Officer.

Each certification trains a Security Force member on how to use an equipment or how to act in a scenario.

Initial Training
This certification refers to a Cadet being shown around, shown the ropes on how to be a Security member, given their equipment and taught on how to properly use a Taser.

Bomb Defusal
This certification refers to how to act during a bomb scenario. It teaches the Security member on how to carefully and correctly defuse a bomb. This certification was added recently due to an incident that occured in the AMS Control Room. However, a guide document will be placed around the Security Hub on how to defuse a bomb with step-by-step instructions, just in case a certified member of the Security Force isn't available during the event.

Firearms Certification
This certification is required for those that are being promoted to Officer. It teaches the Cadet on how to use a Glock 17 safely and efficiently.

Further Firearms Certification
This certification is introduced to Senior Officers who are about to get promoted to the rank of Corporal. It teaches them how to use an MP5 and a Spas-12. Keep in mind, that Spas-12s are to be used only by Lieutenants and both weapons are to be used in emergencies only, except for the MP5 for Lieutenants.

Authority & Priority

As a member of the Black Mesa Security Force, you have the right to stop and question anyone within the facility. Take into account that the constitution can still apply and the right to remain silent may be invoked.

You have the right to detain and hold anyone for a duration of no more than one hour if you believe malicious activity could be at play or a possible threat to general safety is present.

Silence and refusing to cooperate can be grounds for detaining someone.

As a representative of our Security, it is a requirement for you to identify yourself with your name and rank if requested only by a member of the facility.

Here is a brief guide to how to frisk an individual and search them. Be mindful that the word "frisk" and "search" mean two different things.

A frisk is limited to patting down the outer clothing, meaning that you may run your hands on the outer layer of their clothing but cannot reach into or even lift their shirt up to see if, for example, they have a firearm concealed on their hip.

The only time when you can turn a frisk into a search, is if you feel a bulge and therefore have enough probable cause to perform a full pat down, aka a search.

Radio Utilization

One of the most vital instruments possessed by a Security member, is their own personal handheld radio. It has a lot of uses; whether to share information or call for assistance.

A handheld radio shouldn’t be used to talk about personal or unrelated work topics. Relayed messages should be brief, however it is possible for a message to be long, just as long as it's details on a certain situation, topic or anything related to your duty.
